Cornet with Brass Band Accompaniment- Anton Dvořák arr: Dan Price

Song To the Moon is the most popular aria from Dvorák’s opera Rusalka, based on the fairy tales written by Karel Jaromir Erben and Božena Nĕmcová. A Rusalka in Slavic mythology is a water sprite or nymph.

In act one, Rusalka falls in love with a human prince who comes to hunt in the forests which surround the lake where she lives. Rusalka sings her ‘Song To The Moon’ asking him to tell the prince of her love for him. She seeks the help of the witch Ježibaba to become human so that she can be with the prince. Rusalka forfeits her speech and accepts the possibility of eternal damnation should the prince’s love for her falter.
